WON BY 173 RUNS

One of our biggest victories - and featuring two performances that remain high on the honours board. Haydons Road in early June - we bat first, having donated Rob Raeburn and Gordon Sheridan to Colin Grove - making it ten-a-side. It begins quietly enough - just seven runs in the first five overs. Paul Joyce departs in the seventh over - but Florian Eames begins to find his range - going on eventually to make six fours in his forty-nine.

Keith Willison begins brightly with a couple of fours in his twelve - but our man Sheridan picks up his wicket. After fifteen overs it's 69-2. Stefan Tevis off the mark with a three - and the score mounts. Ten overs later it's 147-2 - and shot after powerful shot from Stefan soon moves him past 100. He retires on 112* (nine sixes, six fours) - the highest individual score of which we have a record. Jerry Williams and Martin Spence keep up the pressure and we declare two overs short of our allocation on 236-4 - one of our highest ever scores.

Stefan is not yet satisfied with his afternoon. He knocks over Dave Riley second ball - and soon has Paul Reed as well - two perfectly decent batsmen who together won our inaugural double-wicket competition. When he traps Leslie Hines (another decent batsman who regularly turned out for the Presidents in those days) leg before in his fourth over, Colin Grove are 23-3. Jerry Williams also has some unfinished business for the day. In a spell of thirty-eight balls he cleans up the match - 5-18 including three wickets in four balls in his third over.

A minor rally led by Rob Raeburn and the unbeaten Spencer carries Colin Grove from 27-7 to a more respectable total - but the damage is done. The Presidents come home to one of their biggest ever wins.
