LOST BY THREE RUNS
A HOME GAME AT HAYDONS ROAD

Another of those taut low-scoring games dominated by the ball. Forty overs a side at Haydons Road - although neither side was to use its full allocation.

Stefan Tevis with 3-24, Jerry Williams with 3-23 - and best of all - Ravi Muthiah with a sparkling 3-10 from 7.2 overs (on what appears to have been his first outing for the Presidents) restrict the All Nations to a thinnish 117 all out.

Paul Joyce goes cheaply - but after five overs the Presidents are 24-1 and on their way. The score does not move as David Doyle and Stefan Tevis depart - and 24-3 does not look as good. A brisk 10 from Rob Ashworth, but it's soon 35-4. Laurence Worms joins Jerry Williams at the wicket at 5.25 pm - eighty-three runs still needed. Slowly, slowly - runs are hard to find. It's 63-4 after twenty, 72-4 after twenty-five, 95-4 after thirty. The score passes a hundred as it pushes towards 7 o'clock. Laurence departs - eighty minutes for his 34 - a partnership of sixty-seven between our first and second captains. It's 102-5 and seven overs remain. Just sixteen needed - surely we can finish it from here.

Rob Raeburn run out. Jerry's long vigil ends - 107 minutes for his 26. Jim White a duck. It's 106-8. Ravi - two singles and four - but bowled Murali - it's 112-9. We inch forward - 114-9 - just four needed. John Platt bowled by Gipsy Jones for one - we fall at the last - our last five wickets have gone for twelve - the All Nations have won it with some nerveless bowling. Well played them.
