OLLERENSHAW'S MATCH

What used to be an annual match against the London antiquarian book-trade - the President's own booksellers (Robert Frew, Brian Lake and Laurence Worms) turning out with their colleagues. The Booksellers to bat first - a brisk start, but then a clatter of wickets (two each to Carey Ollerenshaw and Dave Sawtell) to reduce them to 37-4. Two successive stands of fifty lent some respectability, but Carey came back to take another two wickets, and Guy Martin and Gordon Sheridan wrap things up. Laurence has just pipped Extras to top-score with 47 - but with only just over 100 runs coming from the bat in almost the full thirty-five overs the afternoon has belonged to the bowlers - Carey leading the way with 4-29.

The bowlers remain on top. A devastating opening spell from Martin Kemp and Ed Lake - a wicket and a duck in each of the first three overs. But then the counter-assault from Carey. The Booksellers have no answer has he seizes the game - seven fours in his sparkling 62. Steve Blair stays with him as they put on 98 for the fifth wicket - and Clive Lewis joins Steve to see the Presidents home with ten overs to spare.

Carey has posted his name on the honours board twice in an afternoon - one of the rarest feats in the President's annals.
