WON BY ONE WICKET

An away game at Hampstead - and a thriller. With Salix batting first and the score at 20-1 after five overs it was looking to be a high-scoring day, but some disciplined bowling from the Presidents put on the brakes. Just 29-2 at the ten-over mark. More wickets fall and at twenty overs it's 48-6, with only Chattrabutti having reached double figures. At 58-8 after twenty-five overs Salix are in real trouble, but Brett coming in at 10 dominates a rearguard stand of thirty-eight for the ninth wicket. Dave Sawtell wraps up in the innings in his fourth over - Salix all out for exactly 100.

The Presidents reply, but with Dodwell-Bennett departing to an lbw decision with the score on just 4 - it's game on. Eberstein was making life difficult - just two runs conceded from his first three overs (and both of those were wides). But Keith Willison is composed and steady at one end. Will Lake goes for 14 - and it's 32-2. Dave Sawtell joins Keith and a partnership of thirty-three seems to be taking the Presidents smoothly home - but then Keith is bowled by Maroudas. Eberstein returns to the attack - and two more leg-before decisions go his way, punctuated only by a six from Way. Two quick ducks follow and it's suddenly 77-8 - and 101 to win is looking remote. Cometh the hour - Ravi Muthiah in his only appearance for us that season steps forward to be counted. A stand between him and Gordon Sheridan inches the total on. A boundary apiece and it's 94-8. But that man Eberstein returns for a third spell - Gordon's out caught - seven still needed - and the last man's in. Nail-biting relief as Ravi sees us home with a third boundary - well played, sir.
