THE PRESIDENT'S XI - MATCH REPORT - REIGATE PRIORY

THE PRESIDENT'S XI
CRICKET CLUB

v. REIGATE PRIORY V
5 JULY 2003

WON BY 48 RUNS
PRAKASH'S 7-17

The Presidents to bat - and at rather less than full strength - so the familiar stately figures of Clive Lewis and Laurence Worms amble out to bat and look to revive an ancient opening partnership. No time to lose for these old boys - and a dashing start. Six off the first over, eleven off the second, just two off the next, but another eight of the fourth. Laurence departs next over - caught at midwicket looking for more - four fours off fifteen balls in his 19. Clive soon follows - caught behind.

A rather measured (by his standards) twenty-four from Prakash - four fours, one six of twenty-six balls - but when he departs with the score at 59-4 the Pesidents are about to stall. Robert Frew goes quickly - 'caught silly' states the scorebook - silly mid-off? - silly shot? - who now knows? Andrew Swan caught at mid-on for a duck. It's 88-6 - only eighteen overs bowled - and we look to be in trouble.

But a stand of forty-six between young Tom Worms (making a rare appearance) and Will Thorogood drags us towards respectability as the overs tick away. Tom eventually out for a patient 45 (six fours, one six - sixty-one balls) - and the innings quickly subsides. Not used up all our overs - cardinal sin. But at 154 all out - we have the runs on the board. Will they be enough?

Prakash to open the bowling - and the answer soon starts to become clear. Miller clean-bowled second ball. Thirteen balls later - Prakash has already taken four. And with Laurence bowling Olivier for a duck at the other end - Reigate are five men down half-way through the fifth over. The Presidents ease up and share the bowling around - but the damage is done. Prakash ends with a career-best 7-17 - each and every one clean bowled with a splattering of stumps. Colossal and breath-taking performance - the very highest on our honours board.
