THE MAY DOUBLES - 2007

THE DOUBLE WICKET COMPETITION
12 MAY 2007

WON BY DANISH USMANI AND ROBERT FREW

Once again the Presidents men challenged the elements and decided to proceed with the annual double wicket competition on a dark day with threatening clouds. The gamble paid off and the competition went ahead with no rain delays and even sunshine in the late evening. The change of venue from Haydons Road to the Joseph Hood Recreation Ground in Raynes Park confused some of the members, but we learnt that Joseph Hood was a past Mayor of Wimbledon who established many cricket grounds in the area, so going to the Joseph Hood Memorial Ground was an excusable error.

The results, as recorded on the score sheet, were as follows :

  • 1. DANISH USMANI & ROBERT FREW - 67
  • 2. PRAKASH & GUY MARTIN - 64
  • 3. CHRIS LEWIS & ANDREW SWAN - 57
  • 4. TANZEEL & LAURENCE WORMS - 55
  • 5. KHALID SAEED & JEY PARTHIBAN - 40
  • 6. MIKE RICHARDSON & TONY BRUGGEMANN - 32
  • 7. PRABA THANGARAJAH & CHARLIE I'ANSON - 27
  • 8. MIKE EDWARDS & RICHARD SWAN - 6
  • 9. RAHEEL SIDDIQUI & CHRISTIAN DINGWALL - -4

  • Prakash entertained again with some awesome power, putting a six into a backyard and narrowly missing the greenhouse. Chris and Andrew had a good go chasing down Prakash and Guy’s total but it was left to Danish and Robert to produce the winning total in swashbuckling style.

The younger members had the opportunity to get their eye in and the older members to be reminded that takes more effort every year! A good time was had by all and we look forward to the rest of the season.
