WON BY 4 WICKETS

A fine day for cricket that made for a change following last week’s damp experience. After overcoming some administrative problems (such as 20 yd pitch marked out and the hut still locked!), Presidents won the toss and decided to field. The Presidents attack was soon among the St Luke’s batsmen and even the dogged stand by Kirthi (aided by a runner), who must be feeling sore as he took many blows to various parts of his body, could not hold out for long. A modest total of 101 to chase.

An excellent tea was provided by Jey – many thanks Jey.

Presidents went out to bat and started cautiously. Jey fell early on to a ball that moved in much more than he was expecting. Khalid went to the crease and after last week’s performance, the Presidents men relaxed to watch Danish and Khalid see them home. An uneven pitch took its toll and Khalid skied one and was caught for 20 after a promising partnership (23) was developing. Danish and Mark Bruggemann started to build a partnership but this came to an end at 37 when Mark was deceived by a ball that stayed very low and shot through along the ground under his bat. Praba fell soon afterwards but provided good support to Danish. Prakash went to the crease with eight runs required to win. Ravi next in, started to change to go to the pub, but suddenly had to get padded up when Prakash went out to his second ball which failed to bounce at all and went under his bat. Ravi went in and held his end (much to the relief of the last three batsmen!) while Danish hit the winning runs. A comprehensive victory with sixteen overs to spare.
