ROB JOHNSTON

An all round star for the Presidents in days of yore - going well past 100 runs for the summer in both 1988 and 1989, with a top score of 71*. He was our leading wicket-taker in 1989 with seventeen wickets at 6.18 - including one of our best-ever returns of 5-17 - and an extraordinary spell of seven successive maidens against Old Oxonians.

His playing days ended through injury on his return to New Zealand. He became a soccer referee at the highest level, and would have progressed to international honours had injury again not played a cruel blow. A hip replacement has now restored him to rude good health, and he recently took up golf, dropping to single figures in his third year of playing the game. He also found time to retrain as an architect and now lives in Thames, New Zealand.
